Guy Overfelt operating from San Francisco, California, USA
SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHY : REVIEWS / PRESS / INTERVIEWS / CATALOGSWhereas most conceptual performance art elicits a big yawn, Guy Overfelt's brand of brainy merry pranksterism is fueled by infectious hopped up humor and smirky bad boy antics. The local guerrilla artist gadfly's most notorious public provocateurism was staged a few years ago when he went cruisin' for a bruisin' by burning rubber for an art crowd, got arrested, and was hauled into traffic court. For this subversive "landscape artist painting the decrepit disillusion of the American nightmare...", it didn't end there. Overfelt was represented by liberal attorney-cum-publicity hound Tony Serra and sketched by Walter Stewart, the courtroom illustrator who immortalized the O.J. and Unabomber trials. God Bless America While the rest of America barbecues animal flesh on suburban greens this Fourth of July, Overfelt will oversee an Independence Day bash (6-8pm) for his solo exhibition "Cruzen USA" Permeated by the aroma of beer and burnt rubber, artful by-product artifacts include a life-size inflatable blow-up of Overfelt's 1977 Trans Am, tire tread drawings (rubber and asphalt on paper), and charred speed balls (filet de BF Goodrich). Though you probably wouldn't want to buy a used car from this artist, you might want to invite him to your fomenting revolution party. |
